At Bumboo, we believe in the power of people and the resilience of nature. That’s why stories like Langholm Moor give us goosebumps — they remind us that rewilding isn’t just for conservationists or governments. It's something communities can lead, nurture, and grow.

Let us take you to the rolling hills of southern Scotland, where the town of Langholm pulled off something extraordinary.

a vision takes root

Langholm, a small town nestled in Dumfries and Galloway, had long been surrounded by the heather-clad moorlands of Buccleuch Estate. When 10,500 acres of land came up for sale in 2020, the local community saw an opportunity — not just to preserve the land, but to let it thrive.

Backed by a passionate group called The Langholm Initiative, the town rallied together to raise a jaw-dropping £6 million through public donations, grants, and local fundraising.

welcome to the tarras valley nature reserve

The purchase led to the creation of the Tarras Valley Nature Reserve, now one of the largest community-owned rewilding sites in the UK. This vast stretch of land is being gently returned to nature — through native woodland restoration, peatland recovery, and the reintroduction of wildlife.

Think hen harriers soaring above, wildflower meadows buzzing with pollinators, and peatlands quietly capturing carbon beneath your feet.

nature for nature’s sake — and for people too

What’s so inspiring is how this project goes beyond the environment. The Tarras Valley is also about creating green jobs, encouraging eco-tourism, and building a more sustainable future for Langholm.

It’s rewilding as it should be: rooted in hope, led by locals, and built to last.

why this matters to us

At Bumboo, we donate to rewilding causes with every box sold. We see our loo roll not just as a daily essential — but as a tiny tool for change. Projects like Langholm remind us of what’s possible when people act together, with nature at heart.

We’re proud to support rewilding efforts that restore the land and empower communities — and we hope Langholm’s story leaves you feeling as fired up as we are.
